Over easy

One morning
in the seventeenth year
he said
“You know, dear
I really don’t like
my eggs scrambled”
and she replied
“Then cook them yourself.”

He was already in the kitchen
when she came downstairs
the next morning
table set, skillet and spatula in hand
meekly greeted her
with a soft kiss and
“Honey, how do
you want your eggs?”

How nice. And have you noticed the picture looks like a head? A new meaning to 'egg on your face'!

Paisley—I modeled him after my own husband, so of course he's a prince!

NCS—Ain't it the truth?

Gautami—I left it purposefully ambiguous, so that the title could be the answer to that question, as well as a tongue-in-cheek comment on the resolution of the conflict. But the real answer: scrambled.

Totomai—Thank you! I think conflict can be sweet when it brings you closer together, leads to greater understanding.

Ratanaong—Exactly!

Keith—I was looking for an image that went with the poem; this is a painting by Stuart Pearson Wright called "Fried Eggs on Toast." I hadn't noticed before that it looks like a face, but you're right!

Aubrey—thanks. See my answer to Gautami above.

Anthony—(groan) Actually, I love puns and I'm glad you took advantage of the opportunity. Now go get a snack!

Cricket—I don't know if I could honestly claim to get a man to change (even in a work of fiction); IME men tend to change when they think it's their own idea... but then again, I'm lucky to be with a guy who's naturally humble and willing to change when he knows he's wrong.

Very sweet... I see ants crawling in the page, in the screen with so much sweetness in your words.

Check out my series poem: Changes

Happy Valentines!
